This fort had been constructed during 1853 by Lazar Mamula, a general and an Austro-Hungarian as component of the contingency plans of his army for not letting enemy liners enter Boka Bay. While the World War II was underway, Benito Mussolini, the fascist Italian leader, made a concentration camp out of this fort. The number of prisoners who had been held at this is about 2000 and out of these 80 had been executed and 50 /more had died from starvation.
